BlacKkKlansman
The infiltration of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1970s by an African-American undercover cop with the help of a white colleague is in focus in this movie.
BlacKkKlansman is set in the 1970s socio-political era and based on a true story. The creator blends in the contemporary to reconnect the past and present on issues of race in America. It is also a nominee in the best picture category.
Bohemian Rhapsody
Bohemian Rhapsody, directed by Bryan Singer, focuses on Queen and the rise of the band. Moreso, it recounts their reunion and legendary performance at the Live Aid (1985) concert.
Their music and the life of lead singer Freddie Mercury have also been revisited in the movie. Africans can partake in the tribute paid to Freddie Mercury since he was born and raised in the Island of Zanzibar, Tanzania. The Egyptian actor Rami Malek is nominated in the Best Actor category. His performance as Freddie Mercury is arguably convincing and magical.
Green Book
“Green Book” looks back in time on the relationship between an African-American classical pianist Don Shirley and his Italian driver. The movie is based on facts and set around the venuses tour of the 1960s.
Class and race come into play in the movie. However, the two must set aside their differences and look ahead on a journey of a lifetime. It is a nominee of 5 Oscars, including Best Picture.
