AMVCA Awards 2020 nominations were announced a few weeks ago and a number of Nollywood films including ‘Lionheart’ and ‘Muna’ were not on the list. We can not say for sure why ‘Lionheart’ isn’t vying for local awards. But we can imagine the bars are already too high for it after its Oscar disqualification.
‘Lionheart’ was disqualified from the Oscars, but that is definitely not the case with AMAA or AMVCA.
We also don’t want to agree that foreign collaborations are stopping Nollywood films like ‘Muna‘ from going for local awards. Foreign collaborations and Netflix acquisitions may be bad for Nollywood if it sets the bar too high.
That aside, Nollywood may lack organisation but filmmakers know where to place faith. The AMVCA 2020 Awards is coming up soon, here is the nominations list and we have ranked all Nollywood movies on the list.
But also, here are the best films that were not nominated. Some missed the deadline, others did not meet the submission criteria and the rest did not comply with the guidelines. However, they are among the best movies out of Nollywood in 2018 and 2019.
