Africa does have beautiful music. The All African Music Awards AFRIMA, ceremony is to reward the African talents behind these amazing sound coming from Africa. AFRIMA Awards 2019 might be a year for the unexpected as top stars find themselves vying for the same awards.
We will first like to take a quick look at the AFRIMA 2018 winners in some of the major categories as well as their 2019 nominees. This will also help us compare the AFRIMA winners of 2019 after the event goes down on 20 – 23 November.
Song of the Year: 2018 winner, Akwaaba by GuiltyBeatz, Mr Eazi, Patapaa & Pappy Kojo – Akwaaba – Ghana
‘Akwaaba’ was in a contest in this category with Davido’s FIA and a number of others. Many fans of FIA secretly wished for it to win as we did too. For this year, neither GultyBeatz, nor Mr Eazi Patapaa and Pappy Kojo made it to the Song of the year nominees. Here are the nominees for this category this year.

While Shekhinah and Maître Gims led the nomination pack in 2018, we had the feeling Davido’s FIA was going to leave with an award. We just didn’t know which one. For 2019 nominations, Burna Boy has made himself a material for artists of the year, so we anticipate his win in this category.

Best African Rapper or Lyricist: 2018 winner, Falz – Nigeria – La Fête
Kenya does it well when it comes to rap, however, the 2018 win which went Falz was well deserved. This year, with all the rap coming from artists like Nasty C and Khaligraph Jones, this category is going to be a big tussle to win in 2019.
