AMAA Awards 2021 winners and Nollywood movies that lost

The Africa Movie Academy Awards, AMAA 2021 that took place in Lagos, Nigeria produced both winners and losers at the end of the event.

Some of the films nominated for the AMAA awards 2021 also grabbed multiple wins and some had none.

‘Eyimofe’ a film by Chuko & Arie Esiri – (Eyimofe) won in five categories – Feature Film by a Director, Best Director, Achievement in Sound, Achievement in Editing, NFVCB. This is the highest number of wins at the AMAA Awards 2021.

Nigeria’s highest-grossing film of 2020 ‘Omo Ghetto’ was one of those without a single win after the AMAA awards night of November 28, 2021.

‘Omo Ghetto’ was also vying in the Achievement in Editing, NFVCB as well as in Best Actress in Leading Role, however, lost in all categories.

The Gravedigger’s Wife, a Somalian film by Khadar Ahmed also stood out at the AMAA 2021 awards night. It also left the event with five awards – Best Actor in Leading Role, Best Film, Best Film in an African Language, Achievement in Production Design, Achievement in Make-Up.

‘Citation’ by Kunle Afolayan received AMAA 2021 award for Achievement in Soundtrack.

La Femme Anjola which had four AMAA 2021 nominations lost out in all categories leaving the win to Eyimofe in the Achievement in Sound and NFVCB categories, Omar Abdi in the Best Actor in Leading Role category, and Joan Agaba in the Best Actress in Leading Role category,
