Big media house in China, Huahua Media is to cooperate with Nigeria’s Corporate World Entertainment and FilmOne Entertainment to make a new movie ’30 Days in China’ according to Variety. It will be the first Nigeria-China movie and will star a number of Nigerian and Chinese actors. ’30 Days in China’ mimics the name of a previous movie by Ayo Makun, ‘10 Days in Sun City‘. It is set to be released in 2020.
This is not the first time that China has sought to associate with Nigeria on entertainment grounds. China’s move into Nollywood content began with an investment in the pay-TV, StarTimes.
Huahua was also a partner in the production of some popular Hollywood blockbuster movies. ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters,’ ‘Transformers: The Last Knight,’ and ‘Star Trek Beyond,’ are on the list. This gives Nollywood a big chance at the Chinese market for the first time.
First Nigeria-China movie idea is about opening doors to international collaboration. It also seems like part of China’s plan to accelerate investment in Africa during this trade war with America.
The news, however, is a relief to Nigerians who are still dealing with being pitched out of Oscar 2020. It is also better than the news of Lupita Nyong’o playing Ifemelu in The Americanah series for many. It is a surprise how Nigeria keeps talking about going global with movies, yet they could not spot what Lupita Nyong’o saw in The Americanah. Did any Nigerian actors even read the book? Well, this is just an opinion.
