In Nollywood, movie directors are usually in charge of casting, sometimes joined by the producer. A few a years ago, we talked to some Nollywood directors about casting in general. The information we got produced this post.
We have seen different kinds of negative attitude when actors find out after an audition that they didn’t get the movie role they auditioned for. But we have also seen their worst before and during auditions which leads to them losing the role in the first place.

The Reason You Were Not Given A Role In That Nollywood Movie
For some, we have noticed too much complaining, which is one of the most unprofessional behaviors that an actor can put up. They are either complaining about what the directors are doing wrong, or about how they should have been treated with respect. They end up making the directors miserable for calling out to them to audition.
Some are too dramatic and put up unrelated dramas during auditions. This will eventually lead to their eviction.
We don’t know which directors are charging money for movie roles, and this is making everyone look bad. When actors come for auditions, they just expect to get through since they already paid. But not everyone seated there asked for money.
Actors have been told countless times not to come to auditions when they are sick, and they come anyway. This has caused many to lose out on big opportunities and then they blame the directors for their loss.
We have seen actors making assumptions about getting a role that they are not sure they have gotten. When they eventually show up for the script, they become disappointed that the role was given to someone else. All these things have caused some terrible frictions in the past.
Final Thoughts
Losing a role can really bruise an actors ego and we know that. But people have lost more movie roles because of bad behaviors rather than not doing well at auditions. You can choose to see a casting director in Nollywood as a portal or an obstruction in your path, but they are the middlemen. They are the advocate you need to get to the next level of your career in Nollywood. So when you come with your worst to auditions, you can’t go blaming anyone for your loss. We can avoid these frictions between Nollywood directors and actors if we try.
