Nollywood directors are translating everyday experiences and memories into a creative visual experiences to the pleasure of all their viewers. They are an important part in driving the Nigerian movie industry forward. The following Nollywood directors came top of the list in 2017.
Jade Osiberu
Nollywood Director Jade Osiberu told a story that not only demonstrated her opinion about marriage, but also displayed her most special skill in directing. It is her directorial debut movie and she gave us just a little bit to want more. Having being faced with lot of pressure concerning her relationship status as a single lady, she was inspired to make the award winning “Isoken.” She is also the CEO of TRIBE85 production. Her latest movie “We Don’t Live Here Anymore” starring Funlola Aofiyebi and Osas Ighodaro will premier at NollyWood Travel Film Festival, Glasgow edition.
Dare Olaitan
Dare is the the director of the well known “Ojukokoro,” a movie that truly makes a statement for Olaitan. His directorial debut “Ojukokoro” was a genuinely entertaining and funny movie, that also made him one of the most famous Nollywood directors very quickly. In the most clever and creative ways, he delivers the story of the manager of a petrol station who is money thirsty and leaned towards robbing his employers. “Ojukokoro” first drew attention during its premiere at the Africa International Film Festival and later gave him a place as director of the year 2017.
Asurf Oluseyi
Having stirred up controversies as to the place of homosexuality in Nigeria with a movie he captioned “Hell or High Water”, Asurf Oluseyi is said to be starting out with a lot of whim. He later on features in “Hakkunde” a movie where he created a huge comic atmosphere to be enjoyed by both drama and comedy lovers.
For most Nollywood directors, telling a story on camera is their best skill as well as their inspiration, just like Asurf Oluseyi did with his first camera. He began telling tiny little stories, making short videos, documentaries and recordings of things he thought were good enough to be seen. He is the CEO of Asurf Films Ltd. His first short film, “A Day with Death”, earned him the AMVCA’s Best short Film award in 2016.
