Pearl Thusi Doesn’t Think Netflix Has Africa Done A Favour

A short interview of the participants of ‘Africa on Netflix’ photoshoot and video which was aired by the streamer recently stars South Africa’s Pearl Thusi.

The videos interviews are grouped by gender and one more for Netflix African execs. The female personas were presented with a question where they answered individually to build up the interview.

Pearl Thusi Netflix on Africa Interview

“How excited are you that Netflix is bringing African talent and content to the world”?

Most of them in the group think it is an opportunity and a privilege. But Pearl Thusi struck the essence with her answer:

“It is in everybody’s best interest to involve Africa and African content in what they do right now. I don’t think we have been done a favour. I think that’s where we belong. But I am very excited that it is Netflix doing it because of the approach they have taken…”

Pearl Thusi stars in Netflix first original series from Africa ‘Queen Sono’ which we like to call the new imperative African narrative. ‘Queen Sono’ is a thriller where Pearl Thusi plays a spy. Just like her answer to the Netflix question, Pearl Thusi was hardcore in ‘Queen Sono’.

Her answer to the second question was almost like she had prepared for Netflix to throw it. The group was asked, “why do you think African content still resonates with the rest of the world”. Her answer was one of the most brilliant ones for the interview.

She said: “the world originated from here, everybody comes from here, there’s no way it wouldn’t touch them. African content has always been out there, but it has always been through a certain lens or a certain part of….. one window of the entire mansion of the content”.
