From thriller to action, there are several film genres that we have longed to see Africa make. This way the world gets to see how other aspects of the continent aside family works. There’s been some drama, comedy, thriller and all, but almost nothing on spy like the first Netflix original series from Africa, ‘Queen Sono’.
‘Queen Sono’, was ordered by Netflix in 2018 and production series began the same year.
Pearl Thusi is in the lead role as Queen Sono and features as a spy and undercover agent. She will try to find out who and what’s behind her mother’s murder. As she does that, she also finds herself in the midst of a dilemma to protect her country.

‘Queen Sono’ showcases Africa on screen in many different colours that the rest of the world has never seen. It further explores modern world trends as seen by the Africans. The series will take us on a walk through the wealth of ideas that Africa possess.
‘Shadow,’ another south African series premiered last March and is still available on Netflix. While ‘Blood & Water,’ is still in the making.

‘Queen Sono’ acquisition by Netflix is different from that of ‘Lionheart’. They are both originals but acquired in different methods and that makes some difference in Netflix originals. ‘Queen Sono’ will be on Netflix on February 28.
