“The Wedding Party 2” features one of the most amiable group of cast in a Nollywood movie. It is tempting to watch a movie where both Sola Sobowale and Patience Ozokwor feature in. That movie is going to be frantic. Although this movie is not about them, this is just the hype, and it is definitely one worth seeing.
This is the sequel for the 2016 movie ”The Wedding Party”, however, Dunmi and Dozie aren’t the centres of the new release. Diedre, one of the bridesmaids who appeared in the first movie, and Nonso are now two of the central characters.
A movie like this is difficult to review without comparing the first part with second since there are plenty of similarities. They are still two different movies with different messages. But the fun is the same and the story remains beautiful.
The good thing about it is that they stuck to romance, as with the first movie. The story is lifted by the relationship of Diedre (Daniella Down) and Nonso (Enyinna Nwigwe) evolving into marriage. As we see it, this is a commentary on interracial relationships and marriages, and the unnecessary blaze it stirs up in Nigeria. So basically, this movie qualifies.
Although, we were hoping they would throw more light on that topic, instead they made it more about flamboyance. They should have elaborated on this, but that was probably not the messages they wanted to send.
To be honest, Daniella Down performed distinctively and she is among the few that put in some really good acts. One very good Deirdre moment that I believe is worth revisiting was during the announcement of her engagement to her parents and the dance around the house. That may be one of the nicest scenes.
The camerawork is good throughout the entire movie, and kudos to the team as they captured every bit of the dance. The director of “The Wedding Party 2” is different from the first, but still did a good job. The locations where the movie is set are magnificent. The scenes are as exotic as with the first movie.
‘The Wedding Party’ swells your emotion all the way, and the scriptwriters did a good job.
