Unlimited access to movies is absolutely free and legal as many see it. However, movie downloads are sometimes legal and other times, they aren’t. There are pros and cons to everything. If you need to download Nollywood movies from illegal sites, you first need to know the good and bad of your action. You benefit from downloading Nollywood movies, but nothing is exactly free.
Malware and Virus Risks
Certain software that allows you to download Nollywood movies are free but also unsafe. You may not know this until you actually get a malicious file into your device from using this software. The internet space is filled with hackers who spread malware. They are out to get anyone who is unaware of their tricks.
The Law
The law on film piracy and illegal downloads works differently everywhere. However, one common law states that you can’t download copyrighted material without consequences. Copyrighted materials are not sanctioned for download and taking that action is illegal.
It is better to settle for movies that are not under any lawful protection. Certain actions can sometimes be taken by your internet service provider if you are caught downloading Nollywood movies illegally.
There is a benefit for actors too
Most times, illegal downloads allow people who won’t normally buy movies to watch these movies for free. This gives actors publicity and the greater the publicity the more popular they become. Legally or illegally, actors actually benefit when you download movies as exposure means everything to them. This may sound like a win for actors, but you should also ask yourself if the risks are worth it.
Free content and market strategy
There are now many filmmakers in Nollywood that give their work for free on YouTube and certain free channels. They consider this a marketing strategy and was influenced by illegal movie downloads. They now understand what kind of movies to make and how to get the audience to follow them.
