Celebrate Valentine With Romantic African Movies

The love season is here and couples are gearing up to celebrate the most popular one-day event in the world. Many couples have repeated certain activities over and over through the years. Besides, going out on Valentine’s day isn’t for everyone. Staying indoors instead, and relaxing with nice romantic African movies will put you in the mood for the day.

The farmer Rachel and her relationship with a water diviner, Ray is the focus of this native Namibian film. Ray becomes her strength amidst her struggles to keep her farm alive after she is abandoned by her husband. “Taste of Rain” stars Nicola Hanekom, Grant Swanby and Pope Jerrod.

    Fifty

The Nigerian romantic drama “Fifty” reveals the precariousness in the lives of many successful career women. However, for what it’s worth, women are better than men at balancing their family, career and relationship. This film totally proves that. Ireti Doyle, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Omoni Oboli and Dakore Akande stars in “Fifty“.

    About Last Night

Last on our list we have also included an American movie. “About Last Night” is a remake of the 1986 film of the same name, but it is more extensive. It is a rom-com so you can’t expect anything less than excitment while cuddling up on your sofa. “About Last Night” stars Kevin Hart and Regina Hall, the goofy couple who went from a blind date into a relationship. The humour is real and the story feels different as several sides of every relationship is analyzed.

Valentine is only a one-day event, so we have only picked a few from the large bucket full of African romantic comedies. If three movies are not enough for you, we recommend also checking out the list of black films that we have written about earlier. Since it is February, you can also make it a celebration of black history month.
