There is really no need to do anything extreme because you need to get roles in Nigerian movies. Some actors would claim they want to look perfectly like a character. In fact, it could be the desire to both be seen as a good actor and to win awards that entangle them. This is not necessarily a case in Nollywood now, but we worry it will be in the future.
There are actors who have done things that are as harmless as shaving their hair and were lauded. But there are those who are would go as far as bleaching their skin with harmful chemicals to get roles in Nigerian movies. While many people are trying to invalidate that action, it still manages to sail. Don’t be deceived by the idea that lighter skin is in demand in Nollywood. Bleached skin does not translate to fame. If roles in Nigerian movies will take you further than shaving your hair, you should consider what we are about to share.
When is a Nigerian movie role bad for you?
When a movie requires you to look thinner of fatter for a role, it is considered dangerous and unpleasant. You could create a problem for your organs and system if you go through with such a process. However, if you must, do it with the help of a physician or health professional to avoid inflicting extreme pain on these body organs.
Lungs: The most obvious body organ that will be affected by rapid weight gain is the lungs. You could begin to have breathing problems when your lungs try to expand.
Liver and heart: Bodily fluids can be thrown into an irregular state from rapid weight loss which can result in liver and heart damage.
Metabolism: Rapid weight loss has a terrible effect on your metabolism. Your body automatically switches into something called “survival mode” which is triggered when the body senses starvation and malnourishment. It will find a way to save itself from shutting down and store calories. Eating and digestive disorder could also arise after the role is done.
Joint and bones damages: Your bone structure which allows you to do certain activities could be affected when you try to gain weight too fast. It can put excessive pressure on your joints and even incapacitate you.
