You don’t find many faces that instantly become outstanding in Nollywood these days, but there is one that you need to know about, Duke Mandinga. Coming from Guinea Bissau, currently living in the US and making things happen in Nollywood today. Actor, Duke Mandinga confirms, passion brought him to Nollywood and we are incited by that.
What we admire more about Duke Mandinga is how much faith he is putting into the Nigerian movie industry. Here’s what he had to say about Nollywood in our recent conversation with him. “Nollywood has something coming. Something that will last. Hollywood has been holding the spotlight for so long but Africa is rising to take over. What is happening is mindblowing and with more investment, big things will come soon”.
About Duke Mandinga
When you look at the interest Nollywood is sparking with investors, you will agree with Mandinga on this one. We have a lot of reasons to believe that Nollywood is about to blow up.
Perikles, as he is also known, talks about choosing to be in Nollywood movies instead of just making movies in Hollywood. He simply attested to the good disposition of Nigerian movies and how they make him feel. “I started watching Nollywood movies before moving to the US, they make me feel good. You always find something that you can relate to. So, I wanted to be a part of it all, I wanted to make people happy as these movies made me.”
Some years back, BTAtv, a film production and distribution company who operate alongside Afliktv visited New York looking for actors. Duke Mandinga quickly saw an opportunity to join the Nollywood team that was on the ground.
Before Nollywood, the actor told us he had been modelling. “I was modelling, my dad never liked it. You have to go to school. But another side of me wanted acting – to make people happy. After getting to the USA, I just wanted to go back to my passion”.
Mandinga is playing a lead character role in a feature film ‘Luna’ being made in New York. ‘Luna’ is an independent film about vampires. The actor has also featured in Nollywood movies including ‘Kiss and Tell’ and “Omoge”. The most recent Nollywood movies which feature actor Duke Mandinga are ‘Adaora’ and ‘Yes, I do’ which are yet to be released.
