‘Glamour Girls’, a whimsical Nigerian movie with two parts from 1994/1996 is getting a remake. ‘Glamour Girls’ was not the most charismatic movie and got many different tags due to audacity. However, it was an instant hit when producer Kenneth Nnebue released it, less than three years after his first ‘Living in Bondage’.
At the time ‘Glamour Girls’ seemed like an outcast from the standard Nigerian movie which was mostly about ritual and family disputes. It featured entirely new themes like sensuality, power and fame from professional women living outside of restriction.
These women associate themselves with danger and waywardness. More so, they are the most decorated scandalous figures in the Nigerian social imagination.
Placing several women in the lead roles, ‘Glamour Girls’ defaces the tendency to do questionable jobs in Lagos to survive. There are consequences as the film shows in the first part and the sequel.
Nollywood actors who featured in the 1994/1996 original ‘Glamour Girls’ are Pat Attah, Gloria Anozie, Eucharia Anunobi, Liz Benson, Sola Fosudo, Jennifer Okere, Peter Bunor, Barbara Odoh.
The remake of ‘Glamour Girls’ is underway by the same team behind ‘Living in Bondage: Breaking Free’. It will be in cinemas in December 2021.
