The Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) 2018 edition was just concluded. The event which recognizes and honours professional filmmakers in Africa this year had a galaxy of stars in attendance. It took place at the Intare Conference Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.
The 2018 nominees were announced in Lagos in August and several winners emerged after the ceremony on Saturday 20th October. It commenced with a red carpet earlier that evening.
For the third time in her career, Nse Ikpe-Etim hosted the Africa Movie Academy Awards. She anchored the event alongside Rwandan comedian, Arthur Nkusi. According to Chairman of the AMAA Selection Committee, Shaibu Husseini, over 500 films entered for this year’s edition of the awards.
Harry Smith AMAA Partner 2018
The awards Chief Executive Officer, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, disclosed that Harry Smith has officially partnered with AMAA.
The company will through the new collaboration help African filmmakers establish a new system in film distribution across Africa.
The discussion went down during the African Business Round-Table in Rwanda, Kigali, ahead of the 2018 edition of the awards ceremony.
Category Renamed in Honor of Jubril Malaifa
In honour of Jubril Malaifa the animation category will now go by the name “Jubril Malaifa Animation Award”. The filmmaker was a nominee this year in the animation category.
