Family members and close friends have confirmed the passing of the Prof Emeritus, James Nwoye Adichie. He was the father of Chimamanda Adichie, Nigeria’s acclaimed writer and had the title of the first Nigerian statistics professor.
Prof James Nwoye Adichie was 88 and passed away in his hometown, Abba, Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State. As they grieve his loss, they also share personal details about his life.
Chimamanda and her five siblings along with their mother Mrs Grace Ifeoma Adichie said that their father lived a good life. They are expected to announce a funeral date soon.
The late prof worked at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, for most of his life where he also earned the “Emeritus” title.
Chimamanda Adichie recently shared a United Nations ECOSOC Humanitarian Affair panel discussion which she was a part of. It was titled “combating and preventing sexual gender-based violence in humanitarian crises”. She talked about body language and consent.
