Lupita Nyong'o in Nigeria

Lupita Nyong’o in Nigeria, hosted by Chimamanda has so many details

The mutual anger over Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o playing a role that many claim someone in Nigeria should play ran deep. The actress will play ‘Ifemelu’ in the adaptation of ‘Americanah’ – a book by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’.

The writer recently hosted Nyong’o at the EbonyLife Place in Lagos with other Nollywood actors including Mo Abudu. The party seemed lively but most of its discussion is withheld from the public.

Lupita Nyong’o on the ‘Americanah’

Apparently playing the lead role in the ‘Americanah’ didn’t come easy for Lupita Nyong’o. The actress, however, has shown her acknowledgement to Nigeria and the film industry.

During her speech at the event, Nyong’o tells the audience that was gathered that she cried so many times reading the book.

She also said that she didn’t have the profile she has today when she first wrote to Adichie, so the author ignored her.

The atmosphere seemed jolly and Nollywood actors who were present seemed excited to have her.

All these actors in one room inspire us mostly the women. Indeed we do agree with Mo Abudu “this is a good time to be an African woman, an African female storyteller”.

‘Americanah’ will star Dakore Egbuson-Akande and Onyeka Onwuenu and will be a mini-series. All scene will be filmed in Nigeria and Lupita Nyong’o said she will return to the country soon. ‘Americanah’ will air on HBO Max.

‘Americanah’ stresses immigration-related issues as well as politics, relationship, identity, love, and race. Chinonye Chukwu, creator of the award-winning ‘Clemency’ will direct ‘Americanah’.
