Netflix is supporting and promoting high-quality foreign content all over the world. This is their way of getting great stories across borders and to the US regardless of the language. But how much of these foreign content does the US watch? Most importantly, how much Nollywood do Netflix subscribers in the US Watch?
Do Netflix subscribers in the US watch Nollywood?
The rest of the world might long to have these content which of course are not from Hollywood, but not the US. This is because nothing really satisfies the US viewers as much as films from Hollywood.
Netflix has constantly tried to get US viewers to watch foreign content since 2014. They sometimes also suggest non-English content to them.
During a survey to know how much foreign and non-English films the US watch, Netflix discovered that it was just a fraction. Films with high quality were more clickable for the US audience. There are a number of Nollywood films on Netflix and only a few are in that category.
There is no number for Nollywood movies that Americans watch but this tells us just how little.
At the moment, aside from ‘New Money’ and ‘Moms at War’, all the other Nigeria movies on Netflix are available for the US subscribers. But do they have an interest in these films?
