A Nigerian movie, ‘Badamasi’, which depicts the life of former Nigerian military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) is set to be released.
‘Badamasi’, a film by Obi Emelonye, studies the life and journey of the one-time head of state in Nigeria. The filmmaker digs into the personality of the man from childhood to the head of state as well as into his perspective of things the public knows about him. The movie further delves into certain historical details on Nigeria and there are some to look forward to.
- Events from his childhood which include the loss of his parents.
- The death of IBB’s friend Vatsa orchestrated by himself.
- His participation in about six military coups in Nigeria including overthrowing Muhammad Buhari’s regime in 1985.
- The letter bomb that killed Dele Giwa which Nigerian’s still believe to have been sent by him.
- His pursuit of Colonel Dimka (also a good friend of his) and the effort to stop a radio broadcast from making announcements.
- His 2-time intention to run for the office of the president in 2007 and 2011.
Obi Emelonye further explains his inspiration to NAN, the news agency of Nigeria. He notes the importance of a movie like ‘Badamasi’ focusing on IBB, to the Nigerian people.
A controversial personality as IBB who is bound to raise conversation was a good candidate for a movie.
‘Badamasi’ was made with the authorization of the ex-head of state, Ibrahim Babangida, though with very little personal opinion.
