People will always find a way to turn love into war. The big herd of Nigerian movie fans who walked into the theatre to watch ‘Love is War’ must have thought little of the meaning of that phrase.
The movie stars Omoni Oboli (Mrs Philips) in a lead role alongside Richard (Mr Philips) Mofe-Damijo who plays her onscreen husband.
Summary of ‘Love is War’ Nigerian movie
The plots of ‘Love is War’ will reveal lots of couples drama through Mr and Mrs Philips. However, it is in the most unsuspecting ways and most of all, not the same everyday drama.
The film is an expose of the political circle in Nigeria and the insanity in landing a political position even for a couple who revealed their fear of what their political intents could do to them.
The narrative also appears to kicks against the relegation of women to certain government roles in spite of track records.
‘Love is War’ is a super-charged political narrative where a man and his wife battle for a position in the government. It smells a lot like some a portion of the film was stolen from ‘House of Cards’. But the filmmakers can get away with that.
A copy cat can at least try to be better, but that effort is less probable in Nollywood.
‘Love is War’ is typical of the identity crisis Nigerian women face when they marry husbands from other states. It was a predominant theme in the movie.
There is always something to prove that a Nigerian movie can be enjoyed to the utmost, talent, and ‘Love is War’ has that.
Damilare Kuku, Yomi Black, Shaffy Bello, Bimbo Manuel, Jide Kosoko, Toke Makinwa, Akin Lewis also star in ‘Love is War’.
