The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has just reported the acquisition of Kunle Afolayan’s ‘Mokalik’ by Netflix. The giant streamer is yet to announce the date the new Nigerian movie ‘Mokalik’ will be on the dashboard. However, you should prepare yourself for a great experience.
Since the release of ‘Mokalik’ on May 2019, it became one of the best Nigerian movies of the year. Watching ‘Mokalik’ will give you shivers and emotion about Ponmile if you are like most people. This is a story that was born from a visit to a mechanic workshop. Being the artistic master player, Kunle Afolayan turned a small idea into visual magic.
Ex big brother housemate Tobi Bakare and singer Simi made their debut appearance in a Nigerian movie in ‘Mokalik’. Other actors who feature include Fathia Williams, Wale Akorede, Samuel Oludayo Akinpelu, Abdulateef Adedimeji, Femi Adebayo, Charles Okocha and Samuel Ajibola.
‘Mokalik’ is set in a mechanic village and is about the life of an 11-year-old boy, Ponmile. He lives in the suburbs and was born into the middle-class. So, he goes to work as an apprentice in a mechanic workshop while trying to find a path in life. Watching Ponmile dangle in the middle of a life’s decision was hilarious. During his interview, Afolayan also made it known that the acquisition by Netflix includes more than one of his films.
