Do you remember the film “Dry” by Stephanie Okereke Linus? It was released in 2014 and won the AMVCA “Best Overall Movie” award of 2016. The film was themed around the practice of under-age marriage and fistula among young Nigerian women.
The movie received a lot of praise after its release, especially for dealing with such an important issue. Liz Benson, Olu Jacobs, Rekiya Attah and Klint D. Drunk, as well as Stephanie Okereke, featured in the film.
“Dry” Screening at University
The theme of the movie is unfortunately still relevant today. To make sure people are reminded of this big issue “Dry” will screen at the Ray Charles Week, taking place at the Dillard University in New Orleans, USA.

The screening will be open to the public, and the hosts are expecting a high attendance. Nigerian actress/director Stephanie Linus will also be giving a lecture at the Dillard University. The lecture is titled “The Emergence of African Storytellers and Their New Narrative”.
Ray Charles Week is an annual event, organised by the Dillard University Ray Charles Program, Dillard Film and Dillard University African World Student Organization. The event aims at researching, documenting, disseminating, preserving, and celebrating African American culture and foodways in the South.
Denzel Washington and Tunde Wey are among the many that have given lectures during this event in the past. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience. Stephanie Okereke Linus will also participate in this session.
