Who makes it to the AMAA 2021 nomination list

Africa Movie Academy Awards, AMAA – Who will be on the 2021 nomination list?

The African Film Academy will be honouring top movie professionals on the continent with trophies in its latest movie awards AMAA, coming up November 28, 2021, at the Lagos Marriott Hotel, Ikeja.

The list of nominees will be announced on October 29, 2021, and will contain the names of over 100 filmmakers in Africa vying in three main categories – all awards, short films and animation.

In total, 27 awards will be grabbed on the award night.

    18. Achievement In Screenplay
    19. Best Film in an African Language
    20. Most Promising Actor
    21. Best Child Actoring Role
    23. Best Actress In A Supporting Role
    24. Best Director
    25. Best Film
    26. Best foreign film category
    27. Best Film by An African student

The last AMAA was held virtually on December 20, 2021.

One of the often highly competitive awards in AMAA is the “Leading role”.

For 2020, Mary Twala Mhlongo won the award of the actress leading role for “This is Not A Burial, It’s a Resurrection (Winner).”

She was nominated alongside Jocelyn Dumas (Cold Feet), Stella Damasus (Between), Meg Otanwa (For Maria Ebun Pataki), Elvira Ibru (The Bling Lagosians), Girley Jazama (The White Line) and Kelly Kumalo.

Jimmy Jean-Louis on the award of the actor leading role for “Desrances”, nominated alongside Gabriel Afolayan (Coming from Insanity), Kang Quintus (The Fisherman’s Diary), Bangile Matsai (Knuckle City), Alphons Menu (Gold Coast Lounge), Enyinnia Nwigwe (Badamasi), Robert Agengo (40 Sticks).
