South African news reporter SABC has just announced that top philanthropist Zindzi Mandela is dead. She was the daughter of South African freedom fighter Nelson Mandela and activist Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
For the last five years, she had been the ambassador of South Africa to Denmark as reported by Aljazeera. Zindzi Mandela died on Sunday evening in a hospital in Johannesburg at age 59.
Speaking for the African National Congress, Pule Mabe confirms her death but gave no details.
Zindzi Mandela who also got involved in freedom fighting in South Africa will be remembered in a lot of ways including for a being a philanthropist.
She is most popular for reading out a rejection note from her father to President PW Botha in 1985.
Tobias Elling Rehfeld, Denmark’s ambassador to South Africa also took to Twitter to grieve his colleague. He said it saddens him to learn that Zindzi Mandela is dead and he further sends his condolence to the Mandela family.
