There is very little time left before the AMAA Awards night. If you need to prepare for the event, you can start by watching the nominated African movies that are available on Netflix and Amazon Prime. If you do not already have a subscription on any streaming site, you could try to share a friends account. Netflix allows shared accounts as well as Showmax, but you need to check if the later has any of the nominated movies. There are also those that you might need to purchase directly from film kiosks.
Everything available to stream before the AMAA event
Here’s everything available to stream before the AMAA event on September 27.
- ‘The Burial of Kojo’ on Netflix – This movie received nominations in several categories of the AMAA and is one of the most nominated. ‘The ‘Burial of Kojo’ is by Ghanian filmmaker Blitz the Ambassador.
- ‘Gold Statue‘ on Amazon Prime – This is a 2019 Nigerian movie by Tade Ogidan. ‘Gold Statue’ received nominations in five different categories of the AMAA.
- ‘King of Boys‘ on Netflix, Amazon Prime – ‘King of Boys’ is already widely proclaimed and is available on Amazon Prime. It stars Sola Sobowale and Adesua Etomi. It is also nominated in several categories of the AMAA.
- ‘Rafiki’ on Amazon Prime – Kenya director Wanuri Kahiu made one of the most controversial movies our time, ‘Rafiki’. The movie is nominated in over seven different categories.
- ‘Rattle Snakes’ on Amazon Prime – ‘Rattle Snakes’ is a new movie by Julius Amadume. It is not to be mixed up with the old Nigerian movie ‘Rattle Snake’. The movie is up for the Best Film by an African-born Director Living Abroad Award.
None of these movies is more recommended than the other, they will have different influences on you. So you should not miss any. The rest of the African movies on the nomination list which are not on Netflix, Amazon Prime or Demand Africa may still be running in cinemas around you.
