Multichoice has made a deal to allow subscribers to watch both Netflix and Amazon Prime shows on its DSTV decoder soon. The integration with Netflix and Amazon Prime will give DSTV premium customers single access to watch a variety of content.
The company published the new arrangement on its annual financial results document. According to the report, an additional 900 000 subscribers grew its userbase by 5% to 19.5 million the last year.
Multichoice, a cable TV giant in Africa have struggled to keep customers recently following the entrance of competitive streaming services. In 2015, it introduced Showmax, a cheaper option to try to retain its customer base.
With more local production to come, ‘Tracker’, a local series marked its shift into production as it continues to serve African content as a trademark. ‘Blood Psalms’ and ‘Rogue’ are on the list. It has also grown its local content library to nearly 57 000 hours that last year.
Multichoice also has a plan to launch four new local content TV channels as well as a dishless DSTV which will need no installations to use. It will be similar to its current service but more like a streaming service.
