‘Illegal’
Tania and her 13 years old son Ivan lives in Belgium illegally and fear deportation. So Tania tries to be tricky with her identity. With the help of a mobster, she gets false papers. She is later arrested and put in detention where she meets an African woman who advises her not to reveal her true identity. She is concerned for her son who fled when she was arrested and fears he will be drawn into dirty deals. Tania is desperate to see him again and finds no other options but to take someone else’s identity. After getting out, she is beaten to an unconscious state and ends up in a hospital. There she finally gets the chance to escape.
‘Le Havre’
After having tried his hands on his dream career as an author Marcel Marx gives up and retires into exile in the port city of Le Havre. He resorts to living a simplistic life with his wife Arletty who suddenly falls ill. Soon after, he meets an underage immigrant refugee from Africa.
He is awakened by the indifference of humanity but faces it with courage when the police come calling for the boy. To avoid having him deported, kind neighbors help hide him from the police.
‘Entre Nos’
A Colombian immigrant Mariana travels to New York with her kids, to reunite with her husband Antonio. Being there presents a new set of responsibility for Antonio. One day he announces that he has found work in Miami with an apparent intention of leaving his family.
Mariana and her son’s survival and decency suddenly depend on what they can scrape out of the streets – from selling homemade empanadas to collecting aluminum cans off the city’s streets. Soon they are met with complications that put them into a rash struggle for survival.
