Nelson Mandela Movies
‘Nelson Mandela: The Myth and Me’: Khalo Metabane takes a presumptive look at Mandela’s legacy in The Myth and Me.
Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom: This was an adaptation of the autobiography of the same name. It is an unconventional biopic that achieves only one-quarter of what it was looking forward to. But it gives us a lot about Mandela to deserve this reference. The movie can hardly be compared to most other Mandela biopics but appears to be a more complete and proper biographical piece in terms of scope.
The movie gives us satisfaction in a lot of ways and mostly with the way that Idris Elba captures the true essence of Mandela’s personality. However, most parts of the movie presented Mandela as an imaginary hero when in fact this is a real story. Everyone else in his life was almost invisible. They also avoided digging too deep and leaving out important events. Some moments that should have manifested as actual dramatic incident were revealed as though they were coincidental. Only tiny bits of the movie reflects the controversial personality that Mandela is in his marriage.
