Netflix Engages Writers From Africa For Episodic Content

Netflix gathers writers from Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya.

Netflix is getting close to being the dominant streaming service on the black continent. To expand its capacity, it is culling writers on the continent in collaboration with Realness Institute, for Episodic Content Development Lab.

The lab which is opened for submission since the end of November focuses only on writers from Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya.

These include people who have film and TV experience in any genre (fictional or factual) or language. Real Institue will select six writers from the submissions.

Netflix will develop and commission projects which they will work on after the selection phase.

Writers will receive a stipend of $2,000 monthly. However, the projects would require full-time availability for a period of three months – June to September 2021.

Netflix African library is advancing with new additions monthly as it works its way through partnerships and collaborations.

In 2019, the streamer announced its intentions to invest in Africa which aligns with the objective of this recent partnership.

More so, it wants to bring exposure to the Afrian narratives while investing in African content writers.

Realness Institution focuses on supporting the development of African content and its creators.
