- Choose a genre and make it the focal point. Don’t write a script in different genres – write a script in one genre. You are asking people to buy a script that will cost them lots of money, and probably a lot more to produce it.
- Knowing a story is not enough, you should also know how to develop it. You can learn this concept by picking up a produced script and analyzing every atom of it. Read through the script while watching the movie to fully understand the structure of the screenplay. Understand the sequences and scenes, tone and pacing
- Spend time learning the structure of screenplays. There are special formatting commonly used for dialogues, scene shifts and events. To finalize a script, you need to know this formatting.
