You might be among those who believe that a movie like ‘The Vendor’ is everything that is wrong with Nigerian movies. The 2018 movie has one of the worst endings you will ever see, and the plot doesn’t have too much to offer. On the other hand, it can be just what you need when life is looking hopeless.
‘The Vendor’ is themed around a humble life, poverty and hardship. Gbadebo (Odunlade Adekola) lives in Lagos and sells newspapers for a living. Selling his newspapers requires the eeriest practices, but he fails in the business anyway.

That does not compare to his subsequent failures as Gbadebo finds time to complain and criticize other people’s hard work. When life happens, he gets a job as a chauffeur to a young wealthy lady. But of course, he is Gbadebo and he is also useless in that job.
In the end, he meets his wealthy estranged father when we expected that he should be fixing his eerie lifestyle. Suddenly things turned around for him, just like that.

The entire plot and especially the ending are sending some mixed messages. Gbadebo was always hopeful, but still represents a lot that’s wrong with society – being petulant and indisciplined. He still hits the jackpot when he meets his father. Regardless of this, it is still one of the best you will ever find for comic relief.
