New film “Unmasked” shares new details of the health care system in Nigeria.
Nigeria’s new feature-length documentary film “Unmasked: Leadership, Trust & COVID-19 in Nigeria”, explores the incidence and management of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
COVID-19 became a pandemic in 2020 after the World Health Organisation, WHO confirmed that it has reached 99% of countries globally.
Lockdowns and restrictions of businesses that followed caused recessions all over including in Nigeria. But Nigeria faced other issues – lack of trust in the government.
This led many to say that COVID-19 was not real. It quickly became a conspiracy theory.

Unmasked, the film
Femi Odugbemi, the producer and director of “Unmasked,” put together the narrative to explore the reason behind the people’s disbelief in COVID-19 and the government.
More so, how everyone, including the rich, was subject to the pandemic.
“Unmasked” further scrutinizes Nigeria’s response to the pandemic and reveals truths about the state of Nigeria’s health sector.
Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai, Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, and former chairman of First Bank of Nigeria Ltd, Mrs Ibukun Awosika all feature in “Unmasked”.

The three-episode film premiered in May 2021, where Nigeria’s CBN government who was represented by Mr Osita Nwanisobi, acting Director, Corporate Communications made remarks about Nigeria’s health care system.
He said, “a key factor that has impeded access to healthcare for Nigerians is the prevailing cost of healthcare services.”
“Unmasked” was co-produced and presented by Kadaria Ahmed.
