Film sets do have etiquettes that both the cast and crew members are to adhere to. These set rules are to direct people on the correct procedures when working.
Etiquettes should come naturally with people who have been thought morals. However, everyone tends to fall out and we have seen that happening on film sets while working on Nigerian movies.
Everyone on the film set notices your every move. It is in your best interest to follow these etiquettes if you want to be on the good list of directors and filmmakers.
Be patient, be honest, be efficient and don’t slow down the set with personal feuds. Some people are just too difficult to work with and we have seen a lot of them. But you can hold on just for as long as the project lasts.

Corrections for the common omissions by many cast and crew members of Nigerian movies on film sets
- Be at the film set early.
- Respect each other’s space.
- Appreciate compliments and others, it is a sign of humility.
- Don’t tell anyone how they should do their jobs, just do your job. Know when to jump into other people business.
- Be attentive and alert for when you are needed. Don’t disappear during working hours. We’ve seen actors who leave the set without consent.
- Be polite – always use the magic words: Please and Thank you. Never refer to superiors as your equal.
- Talk directly to the director and respect the chain of command. I know someone who was disqualified for asking a friend to explain a scene instead of the director who was standing right there.
- Maintain a good attitude and mood. I remember being on a movie set in 2009 and this actress, a very popular one, was yelling very loudly and cursing at a crew member. It was distasteful.
- Turn off your phones and keep your hands at a place. Don’t go touching props.
- Props should have the right tools at hand at every point.
- Friends and family can not visit you on set.
- In Nollywood, people are in the habit of taking photos with actors while shooting is on. Photos can wait until after the movie set. On some movie sets, photos and videos are prohibited to avoid leaked scenes.
- Respect the locations and the traditions of the locals.
- Don’t destroy props or leave set with them.
- Act professional and leave things like headsets at home.
- Wear a proper outfit to avoid accidents on set.
